Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT)

DSC’s Armed Forces Charities Project continues to be generously funded by Forces in Mind Trust. We are proud to have partnered with FiMT since 2014.

Founded in January 2012 by a £35 million Big Lottery Fund 20-year endowment, Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT) awards grants and commissions research, coordinates the efforts of others, and supports projects that deliver long-term solutions to the challenges faced by the Armed Forces Community.

We have developed a change model using Theory of Change tools to deliver our strategy. Our Vision is that all ex-Service personnel and their families lead successful and fulfilled civilian lives. Our Mission is to enable them to make a successful and sustainable transition.

Our Strategy is to use our spend-out endowment to fund targeted, conceptually sound, evidence generation and influence activities that will cause policymakers and service deliverers to support our Mission.  Please see pages 12 and 13 of our 2015 Activity Report for further information.

Each year approximately 15,000 people leave the UK Armed Forces and for the vast majority they transition successfully into the civilian world, their lives having been enormously enriched by their time in service.  However, some need additional support, and it is these most vulnerable people that Forces in Mind Trust exists to help.
